Advantages of GIF-D_(2) Forward Viewing Fiberscope

Abstract
|
|
|
GIF-D2 forward viewing fiberscope was applied to the patients with gastrointestinal disorders to evaluate the functional advantage of the instrument and the conclusions were made as follows.
1) It is suggested that a satisfactory observation for the esophagus can not be obtained unless the forward viewing fiberscope is applied and that esophageal findings are easily obtainable by the way of insertion to the stomach or duodenum.
2) Most of the parts of the stomach except only a part of fundus and proximal antral lesser curvature are within the visualization of GIF-D2 fiberscope and an observation can be made with maximal approach to the pyloric ring.
3) The visualization on the distal duodenum can be easily obtained although the findings in bulbar portion are not always satisfactorily observed.
4) In case of gastrotomized stomach, forward viewing fiberscope is much convenient than that of side viewing type.
5) A biopsy forceps can be reached with correctness, to the target site as far as a lesion is, located -within the fiberscopic vision.
6) It is recommendable that a forward viewing fiberscope should be applied for detection the bleeding site when upper gastrointestinal bleeding with unknown origin is encountered.
